Description: You would think that in this age of constant communication -
with cell phones, land lines, beepers, pagers, texting, instant messaging,
chat rooms, et al - that we would all be experts at communicating
effectively. After all, we are "within reach" 24/7 these days and most of us
are "communicating" more than ever. And yet...

 

And yet, how often do you get an email that makes the hair on the back of
your neck stand up because of its abruptness? How often do you get a voice
message that is indecipherable? How often have you noticed that manners and
proper grammar in electronic communications seem to have gone the way of the
pony express?

 

And why should any of it matter? After all, most people are pretty lax about
following the "rules" when it comes to communicating. It matters because in
the library profession, our patrons expect US to be the professionals - the
experts, if you will. And if we aren't being professional with our
co-workers and others, there is a good chance that same relaxed attitude
will come across to our patrons, giving them the impression that they aren't
worth the effort.

 

With more than 20 tips to get you thinking about how your communications are
perceived, this fun and fast-moving Webinar will give you an opportunity to
refresh your telephone etiquette, learn easy ways to improve your email, and
polish your voice mail communications.

 

Speaker:Linda Bruno: Linda has been helping people grow, both professionally
and personally, for over 10 years. She works with libraries, universities,
Chambers of Commerce, corporations and other organizations to help them
nurture their most valuable resource - their employees.

 

Linda's ability to combine humor and real-life experience with her knowledge
of people enables her to relate to her audience in a unique way. With more
than twenty years of hands-on management in positions such as Director of
Purchasing, Vice President of Sales and Vice President of Customer
Relations, she has developed a keen insight into what works in the real
world. Linda's experience as a national trainer with Dun & Bradstreet has
also expanded her ability to communicate effectively.
