OHIONET is pleased to announce the development of an open source statewide
resource sharing system from Equinox. Funding for this initiative is
provided in part by an Institute of Museum and Library Services Library
Services and Technology (LSTA) grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio.

Equinox Software Inc. has been selected to develop a new open source
resource sharing solution called Equinox FulfILLment. The goal of the
project is to develop a seamless resource sharing application under an open
source licensing framework in an environment of disparate integrated library
systems (ILSs).

"There is great value in collaboration with similar goal-oriented
organizations, especially in this economic climate," said Michael P. Butler,
Executive Director and CEO of OHIONET. "All of us recognize that we need to
give a little of ourselves and pool together our resources to create a
resource sharing option which will streamline processes for libraries in
today's technologically-advanced industry."

Members of the Collaborative include:

. OHIONET

. State Library of Ohio

. WiLS - Wisconsin Library Service

. State Library of Iowa

. State Library of Illinois

. State Library of Indiana

. State Library of Missouri

. State Library of South Carolina

Founded in 1977, OHIONET is a non-profit library membership organization
that provides cost-effective information sharing with innovation, responsive
customer service, and integrity. OHIONET serves as a library and information
partner to more than 300 member libraries in Ohio, West Virginia, and
western Pennsylvania.

Equinox was founded by the software team that developed Evergreen, the
integrated library system (ILS) that first was used by the Georgia Public
Library's statewide PINES consortium. Evergreen is a robust, large scale ILS
developed using the open-source model. In late 2006 they started Equinox
Software Inc. to continue this work. Equinox develops Evergreen and sells
various services to libraries implementing Evergreen: data migration from
legacy systems, training, support, and specialized development.
