Program Description:
YSS has always been a two-day event, but in the light of library budget
cuts, we are going to have just a one-day event in two locations to save
costs and mileage.

Our one-day workshop will focus on literature, programs, and social
networking to further help us reach our tween and teen patrons. There
are many definitions for tweens - we are focusing here on children ages
10-12 and for teens, ages 13 up. For this workshop, we aim to hit both
groups - for example, our keynote speaker has written for all ages, and
even her teen books have been described as "clean."

Keynote speaker is Dandi Daley Mackall, author of teen favorites Crazy
in Love, Eva Underground, and Love Rules. Her newest just-released book
is My Boyfriends' Dogs. Books for tweens include Larger-Than-Life Lara,
A Girl Named Dan, and her Winnie the Horse Gentler and Starlight Animal
Rescue series. However Dandi is the author of over 400 books for
children and adults, and is a frequent guest on radio and television
talk shows.

In addition, we will have Laura Solomon from OPLIN speaking on ""How
Tweens and Teens Are Using Social Networking, and How Libraries Can Use
This for Their Advantage," and also some "Best Practices Programs" for
tweens and teens.

Closing speaker will be Kristina McBride, a new author from Ohio, whose
book The Tension of Opposites, is already receiving favorable buzz.
