here's one useful database of books appropriate to adults learning to read:

The only current publisher of low literacy books for adults I can currently
find is New Readers Press:  http://www.newreaderspress.com/

Laubach Literacy used to have a press of it's own if I recall correctly, but
it appears to have folded into New Readers Press.
