Due to an upcoming retirement Salem Public Library is seeking
applicants for the position of Children’s Librarian/Head of Children’s
Department.  This is a full-time position which is responsible for all
aspects of department operation including - programming, material
selection, staff scheduling, and supervision.

Applicants for this position should possess an MLS with a minimum five
years of professional experience and experience designing and
presenting programs for children.  The ideal candidate will enjoy both
people and literature; be creative, energetic and flexible; be an
effective communicator; have experience with the Every Child Ready to
Read initiative; be comfortable with technology; be well organized and
capable of working independently, and have an excellent background in
education and children’s literature.

Salem Public Library is a community focused library which serves
19,000 residents in NE Ohio with 19 staff, 34 volunteers, and an
annual operating budget of slightly more than $1 million.  We have an
annual circulation of approximately 400,000 and regularly rank in the
top 2-3% of libraries serving similar sized populations in the United
States.  The library is committed to partnerships with the area school
district, preschools, and other community organizations to foster
learning, literacy, and a love of reading.
