This isn't a silly question, since so many people get book recommendations from social networks, which are built upon some level of friendship. These days, those social networks matter *a lot*. Take a look at this graph from Pew's report on "Younger Americans’ Reading and Library Habits." 


According to Pew's findings, people turn to friends at least twice as often as they turn to "experts" when they need book recommendations, whether those experts are at the library, a bookstore, or online. 

Pew Research gives information about the reading public that can't be found anywhere else. If you want to learn how people use technology and use libraries, they're a great resource: http://pewinternet.org/

That's when Lee Rainie , Director of the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, is coming to speak at SWON's Lunch, Learn and Membership Meeting . He'll share their latest results on libraries, the focus of a $1.4 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and answer your questions.
