[OPLINLIST] State Library of Ohio Board recently awards $114, 472 in IMLS LSTA Minigrants

The State Library of Ohio is pleased to announce that the State Library Board recently awarded $114,472 in federal Institute of Museum and Library Services LSTA Minigrants<http://library.ohio.gov/lpd/lsta-minigrants> to seven libraries." The funded projects run the gamut from traditional library services to those embracing emergent technologies," said Missy Lodge, Associate State Librarian for Library Development.  "All have the same fundamental principle, improving access to library resources and services to end users." Public libraries receiving the grants include Adams County Public Library, Andover Public Library, Grand Valley Public Library, and Portage County District Library. Academic and Special libraries awarded LSTA minigrants include Miami University Middletown, Ohio Historical Society, and Ohioana Library Association.

The grant period is April 1, 2013 - August 31, 2013. The libraries, grant amounts, and program activities include:

Adams County Public Library, $24,000 for the "Expanding Our Reach" project.  The library will purchase a Mobile Library van to deliver library materials to underserved populations.  Targeted populations include seniors living in senior housing or nursing homes, students attending schools with no libraries, Amish communities, and residents in remote townships.  .

Andover Public Library, $24,000 to allow six independent public libraries in Ashtabula County (Andover, Rock Creek, Henderson Memorial, Harbor Topky, Conneaut, and Kingsville) to join the CLEVNET consortium.  Participation in CLEVNET will allow increased resources and services for patrons.

Grand Valley Public Library, $16,928 to join the SEO Library Consortium.  The grant will allow both the public library and the high school library to migrate to SEO, thus providing increased resources to the patrons.

Miami University Middletown, $21,212, to develop a technology lending hub at the Gardner-Harvey Library.  The Midpointe Public Library will also pilot a technology lending hub with iPad training sessions occurring at both institutions.

Ohio Historical Society (OHS), $7,329 for the development of an app to increase access to quality resources regarding Ohio's Native American history.  OHS will also develop a model for future history mobile apps.

Ohioana Library Association, $2081, to digitize seven scrapbooks in the Ohioana collection and make them available through the Ohio Memory Project.

Portage County District Library, $18,922, for the provision of library service in an unserved area of the county.  The library is partnering with the Deerfield Township Trustees to establish a part-time computer lab in the Township Hall.  A reference librarian will be available for computer training, promote library resources and answer reference requests.
