Please excuse cross-postings.

Hello Everyone,

As Oct 1-- the date when the Health Insurance Marketplace opens-- draws nearer, I wanted to give you some more updates and resources to use to assist patrons. Additional information and links to recorded webinars are available on the State Library of Ohio's website: www.library.ohio.gov/aca<http://www.library.ohio.gov/aca> A technical issue has prevented the recording of our recent webinar from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM). We are working with NNLM to get a new recording of this training.

The Ohio Association of Foodbanks, a statewide navigator organization, is looking for partners to help host enrollment events in easily accessible locations. Libraries interested should fill out this online form: http://bit.ly/15QvJVB. The libraries would ideally be able to help with logistics of the event and provide meeting space and computers. The libraries would ideally be able to help with logistics of the event and provide meeting space and computers. The Ohio Association of Food banks is very interested in partnering with libraries, but they respectfully request your patience with them as they have been inundated with requests from both organizations and individuals.

Another helpful resource to direct patrons to is a local Community Health Center. Many Community Health Centers have received federal funds to assist the public with health insurance and all are required to assist the public regardless of a person's insurance status or ability to pay. You can look up your local Community Health Center using this tool from the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers.<http://ohiochc.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=191>

A number of people have enquired as the best way to now offer insurance to library staff themselves. I learned today that in addition to assisting individuals with health insurance options, Navigators are also trained in assisting small businesses and organizations in choosing health insurance through the Small Business Health Options Program. If you're considering how best to offer health insurance to your employees, it may be worth your time to schedule a meeting with a Navigator.

I also wanted to share with you these FAQ sheets on protecting consumers from health insurance fraud from DOJ, HHS and the FTC. You should feel free to share with your patrons and link to these docs on your websites, if appropriate.
