*Collection Development Librarian – Children’s*

* Lane Administration Center, Hamilton, Ohio*


* Introduction:*

The Lane Libraries are seeking a Collection Development Librarian to serve
as the selector for children’s and teen materials system-wide.  Strong
analytical and problem solving skills, attention to detail, the ability to
meet deadlines, adherence to assigned budgets, and the capacity for
independent judgment and action are necessary characteristics of the
successful candidate.  This position requires the ability to work
collaboratively with frontline staff and committees to meet collection and
program needs, and to support weeding initiatives.



*Responsibilities:*

●     Selects materials for all ages, with an emphasis on children’s and
teen, system-wide

●     Manages periodicals day-to-day, including cancellations, claims, and
researching new titles

●     Determines child/teen materials for special collections

●     Assists in the maintenance of the collection, identifying gaps and
replacement needs, and the rebalancing of the collection system-wide

●     Evaluates the collection, identifies trends, generates reports, and
works with staff to develop and promote the collection

●     Participates in and supports staff in weeding initiatives system-wide

●     Identifies resources, print and electronic, and responds to patron
and staff requests

●     Manages recommendation lists prior to publication on the library
website

●     Meets with vendors and evaluates products and materials for possible
integration

●     Examines donations and requests to add items back into the catalog

●     Serves on various teams and committees

●     Performs other duties as assigned



*Qualifications:*

●     MLS degree from an ALA-accredited school

●     Demonstrated knowledge of children's literature

●     Working knowledge of collection development practices and current
trends in selection and vendor services, and the ability to put them into
practice

●     Extensive computer experience, including Microsoft Word and Excel,
online vendor platforms, email, and internet usage



*Preferred Qualifications*:  At least two years of professional experience
with the selection of children’s literature and an understanding of
cataloging practices.  Knowledge of Innovative’s Sierra (or Millennium) ILS
is a plus.
