Hello All,
The original e-mail said that this guy’s name is Jack Lynn. This is not Wally Jones from Gumdrop books, just to be clear.
Have a good holiday.
Deb

Wally Jones is not the man in the photo! He doesn’t wear rock star t-shirts to make his sales calls, and he would never act that way. These are two different people.

It is the same man, he needs to work on his people skills. He showed no ID and was very defensive when I asked. We have to register all our vendors with W-9, insurance, proof of workers comp, etc. He will not get far with his tactics and that is a shame if he is such a nice guy. He must be very frustrated at this point, but if he doesn't change how he approaches people, he will probably get the same results.

Wally Jones is a legitimate sales rep with Gumdrop. I don’t think it’s fair to compare him to the man in this description. He was our BWI rep for many years and is actually a nice guy. He lost his job when BWI stopped selling to public libraries, so, yes, maybe he is pushy /a little desperate these days, but he’s not a crook. We don’t buy from sales reps anymore either, and many of them have a hard time accepting that. But Wally is a legitimate salesman for a legitimate company.

Don't know who he (the guy who you are talking about) was selling thru, but Wally What's-His-Name was through here last month at some point selling for Gumdrop books. I don't know how many ways I could have told him that:

a. We don't buy from sales reps anymore.
b. We get a substantial discount from the jobber we use (Brodart)
c. I have only a certain amount of money to spend monthly on books.

He was rather pushy as well.

He has also been to the Swanton Public Library, though it has been over a month now. We informed him basically the same thing and he eventually left, though not happily.
Glad to have such a strong support system here in Ohio!!!
Best wishes,
Janelle

Hello all:
I have just had an encounter with the traveling salesman with a bag of books. He stopped by two of my branches first, but they told her they do not purchase that way. Then he came to the main library. He was very pushy and adamant. He told one of my branch managers that he was just trying to make a living. I informed him we do not purchase from walk-in sales reps unless they had made an appointment with us. He asked for an appointment and I refused because he had no credentials from any company that is set up as a vendor with our library system (W-9s, insurance, etc.) He had no ID. I told him Paulding County libraries would not purchase from him. I stood my ground, but he made me feel uneasy.

Just wanted to let NW Ohio libraries know he is in the neighborhood and visiting small branches.
Hope you all have a great holiday!
Susan
