The State Library of Ohio is pleased to announce that the State Library Board recently awarded $200,080 in federal Institute of Museum and Library Services Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grants to six libraries. "The State Library Board was pleased by the quality of these grant proposals as well as the variety in both the populations served and the methods being used to accomplish the stated goals," expressed State Library Beverly Cain. "Combined, these initiatives will reach young children to older adults, using a broad range of technology that includes cutting edge music production technology, high tech data analytics, older technology that is still being used in many homes and a bookmobile."

Three libraries were awarded Ohio LSTA Outreach and Partnership Grants: Garnet A. Wilson Public Library, MidPointe Library System, and Plain City Public Library. The purpose the Outreach and Partnership Grant is to assist libraries in providing new and innovative ways of providing services to users and potential users and in reaching individuals at a range of locations and through a variety of methods.

Two libraries were awarded Ohio LSTA Literacy Grants: Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library and Columbus Metropolitan Library. The purpose of the Literacy Grant is to support the library role in the learning experience where literacy is defined as the ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms and tools, and it encompasses early literacy, digital literacy, functional literacy, and others.

One library was awarded an Ohio LSTA Data Management Grants: Ohio University Libraries. The purpose Data Management Grant is to create strong libraries and communities by defining outcomes, developing assessments, drawing conclusions from data, data visualizations, and/or managing and using data to make better decisions.

Grants awarded include:

Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library has been awarded a Literacy grant in the amount of $7,373 to purchase music production related technology, and contracted services of specialized music and technology professionals to provide programming that will teach at-risk youth the technological skills related to music production in a supportive, collaborative learning environment.

MidPointe Library System has been awarded an Outreach & Partnership grant in the amount of $50,000 to purchase a bookmobile to reach underserved populations in their service district, who may otherwise lack access to Library materials and services.

Ohio University Libraries have been awarded a Data Management & Analytics grant in the amount of $46,208 to identify and relocate unique and uncommonly held print monographs housed in the Southeast Ohio Regional Depository as a pilot project toward exploring workflows and workloads required to implement a new storage model for important print collections amongst OhioLINK institutions.
