Borrower Services Manager
Dayton Metro Library
The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a full-time Borrower Services Manager to join the management team of the Main Library.  The Borrower Services Manager reports to the Main Library Manager and directly supervises a group of 23 diverse staff members who staff the Library's call center and Ask Me Desk.  The ideal candidate will have experience and a proven track record in coaching employees so that they become engaged staff members who fulfill the Library's mission to inform, inspire, and enrich those that we serve.  In addition, we also need this same individual to collaborate with fellow managers and staff to revise circulation policies as needed and update the system-wide Circulation Manual accordingly. Essential Job Duties

  *   Establishes and implements goals and objectives for Borrower Services at the Main Library that support the Library's mission.
  *   Directs all department services such as lending, requesting, returning and retrieving library materials.  Reviews and updates the Dayton Metro Library (DML) Circulation Manual frequently.

*         Hires, trains, directly supervises, coaches, and evaluates employees in assigned department.  Ensures proper staffing at all customer service points. Serves as liaison between Main Library Manager and staff.

*         Ensures the efficient, effective, customer service oriented delivery of borrower services for the Main Library.  Maintains a current knowledge of Library operations, policies, and procedures.  Demonstrates and models excellent internal and external customer service.  Maintains frequent personal presence in public areas to ensure outstanding service.

*         Acts as the DML authority on questions concerning circulation, logistics, and debt collection. Assists branch staff with problems related to borrower services. Investigates and resolves Main Library patron and staff complaints and problems surrounding borrower services.

*         Promotes community awareness of the Library and establishes effective communication with community groups, organizations, and individuals.

*         Prepares budget requests and submits reports as requested.

*         Assists patrons in finding and selecting library materials, and in the use of the public computers, personal electronic devices, and library virtual materials.

*         Monitors facility needs, initiates maintenance and repair of department equipment in cooperation with the Facilities Manager.  Maintains safe and secure public service areas for staff and patrons in conjunction with the Security Manager.

*         Implements Library policies and procedures at the department level.  Participates in policy revision and in the formulation of policies and procedures.  Interprets Library policies to staff and patrons with a patron-responsive management perspective.


Job Qualifications

*         Ability to maintain effective relationships with community officials, leaders, organizations, the public, Library managers and staff.

*         Ability to read, analyze, and interpret statistical data, general business periodicals, professional journals, policy and procedure manuals, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence clearly and informatively.

*         Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, patrons, and members of the community individually and in a group setting.

*         Ability to plan, schedule and oversee division operations and personnel.

*         Knowledge of professional library principles, theories, concepts, policies and procedures. Knowledge of policies and procedures related to borrower services.

*         Knowledge and appreciation of literature, periodicals, audiovisual materials, web sites, social media, and other electronic media which constitute a diverse, current and relevant collection.

*         Ability to prepare and administer budgets.

*         Ability to model a competent and complete search strategy using both print and non-print information resources.

*         Knowledge of available and emerging technologies and their application to library services.

*         Valid Ohio driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and continuous insurability required.

*         MLS from an A.L.A. accredited program, minimum of three to five years of increasingly responsible experience in a public library setting at a professional level, and supervisory experience preferred.

*         Some evenings and weekends are required.

Compensation and Benefits:  Starting salary is $49,295 annually with an exceptional benefits package.
