Stand Up for Health is an eight-hour workshop on health and wellness resources and services that public library staff can use to support the health information needs of their communities. The course was developed through a partnership between our organization, WebJunction, and the Public Library Association. The course requires two hours of pre- and post- work to provide 12 credits of continuing education.

Beyond an Apple, a Day is a shorter, four-hour workshop on a variety of topics on health information, including special topics such as substance abuse and rural health. The workshop meets the competencies required for Level I of the Consumer Health Information Specialization (CHIS) certificate from the Medical Library Association (MLA). Both courses include interactive learning and have received excellent reviews from past attendees.

In three-month follow-up surveys, all attendees report learning about a new resource and 91% are still using that resource.

Our office will sponsor the cost of obtaining a CHIS certificate for all participants who complete the workshop and additional courses, if necessary, to reach 12 credits of continuing education required for CHIS.

We would be pleased to present this as a pre- or post-conference workshop or as a stand-alone event for public library staff in your state.
