*2019 One Book, One Community Author to Speak at KSU Tuscarawas*

Bestselling author Catherine Price will speak in the auditorium at Founders
Hall at Kent State Tuscarawas on Monday, November 4 at 7:00 PM. This free
community gathering is the culminating event for the 2019 One Book, One
Community project, a county-wide reading initiative organized annually by
the Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition. Price will speak on her book, *How
to Break Up With Your Phone: The 30-Day Plan to Take Back Your Life.*

About the book: Is your phone the first thing you reach for in the morning
and the last thing you touch before bed? Do you frequently pick it up “just
to check,” only to look up forty-five minutes later wondering where the
time has gone? Do you say you want to spend less time on your phone—but
have no idea how to do so without giving it up completely? If so, this book
is your solution. Award-winning journalist Catherine Price presents a
practical, hands-on plan to break up—and then make up—with your phone. The
goal? A long-term relationship that actually feels good. You’ll discover
how phones and apps are designed to be addictive, and learn how the time we
spend on them damages our ability to focus, think deeply, and form new
memories. You’ll then make customized changes to your settings, apps,
environment, and mindset that will ultimately enable you to take back
control of your life. Packed with tested strategies and practical tips,
this book is the essential, life-changing guide for everyone who owns a
smartphone.

*How to Break Up With Your Phone* is being published in 28 countries and 22
languages. It's been featured in publications and on shows and podcasts
including The New York Times, CBS This Morning, The Los Angeles Times, the
Dr. Oz Show, NPR's Here and Now, the BBC World News Service, Good Morning
America, Wired, Time Magazine, Recode, the Financial Times and most major
newspapers in Britain, among many others.

About the author: Catherine Price is a science journalist, author and

In its 12th year, One Book, One Community is a grassroots community reading
movement that aims to bring people together by giving them the shared
experience of reading the same book. “When we all read the same book, we
all have something to talk about,” says Jim Gill, 2019 One Book, One
Community chair and Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition board member. “One
Book’s goal is to break down barriers between different groups of people
and to strengthen Tuscarawas County. We feel this year’s book is incredibly
timely as it deals with technology addiction and today’s struggle to be
mindful and intentional with our time. We were blessed, through our
sponsors, to be able to distribute 2,500 copies of this year's book to
schools throughout the county.”

The Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition is a non-profit organization
comprised of groups and individuals dedicated to enhancing traditional
literacy as well as cultural, financial, medical and technological literacy
for all Tuscarawas County residents. The organization promotes public
awareness and works collaboratively with local educators, literacy service
providers, business, community and ministerial organizations to support and
initiate programs that work toward the goal of enhanced literacy.
