Office of Information Technology Customer Update - January 27, 2006
 
 
Scheduled Maintenance:
 
When: Every Tuesday
 
Time: 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM

January 31, February 7, 14, 21, 28 -  OIT engineers will be migrating
customers to the new Columbus Core Network. These moves will be
coordinated with the customers by their customer engineers. 
 
During the migration to the new Columbus Core Network, customer
engineers are planning to work with each agency on current and future
bandwidth requirements.

January 31 - OIT engineers will be moving the following customers from
the existing ATM core network to the new Columbus Core Network.
Connectivity to and from these customers will be interrupted.

Completed Maintenance:

OIT engineers moved the OIT-Enterprise-SOCC-A/B connections from BBSOCC
and BBSOCD (ATM core) to BBSOC5 and BBSOC6 (GigE core).  This affected
all of Enterprise Computing (Mainframe Services, Database Services, Unix
Services, Windows Services), OIT Enterprise Shared Services, and OIT
Secure Hosting Services.

Outages were from 3:40 to 4:00 and from 5:03 to 5:06 a.m.

All four OIT DNS Resolvers were moved off the ATM backbone

 
Monthly Firewall Maintenance:
 
When: Third Tuesday of every Month
 
Next Scheduled Maintenance: February 21, 2006
 
Time: 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM.
 
The Network Security Group will be performing firewall maintenance. Less
than three minute outages are expected during the maintenance window.

OIT Network Administration Network Managers Meeting 

When:  	Thursday, February 2, 2006
Where: 	State of Ohio Computer Center, 1st Floor
Time:  		10:00am until 11:35am 
 
Agenda:

9:30 - 10:00  Arrival Time:   Coffee, Donuts, and Security. (See below
that the security process has changed since the first meeting.)
            Most of the customer engineers will be available (a small
number will be keeping the network running) for informal discussions.
10:00 - 10:05    Welcome
10:05 - 10:10    Status Update on Gigabit Ethernet Columbus Core Network

10:10 - 10:15    Status Update on Service Center (5 minutes)
10:15 - 10:30    Post Mortem Discussion on recent ATM network outage (15
minutes)

New Security Procedures at the State of Ohio Computer Center:

It is the policy of SOCC that all individuals entering must present
photo identification / SOCC State of Ohio ID badge and successfully
complete the physical screening process before entering the building. 

Upon entering the SOCC, visitors will be asked to present a photo
identification to receive a visitor pass.  After the ID has been
presented, visitors shall place all items such as bags, packages, purses
and any other carry items through the x-ray machine.  All items are
subject to being searched for prohibited items

Additionally, visitors must pass through the walk-through magnetometers.
To do so, visitors should observe the following procedure: 

*	Remove all metallic items from pockets and place in the plastic
tray. Items that should be removed include coins, keys, cell 	phones,
pagers or any other metallic item. 
*	Some outer garments with a large amount of metal should also be
removed and placed on the conveyor belt to be examined 	through the
x-ray machine. 
*	Place lap top computers, bags, purses, packages and any other
carry items on conveyor belt. 
*	If visitors fail to pass through the walk-through magnetometer
without alarm, they are subject to be scanned with a hand-held 	metal
detector by security personnel. 
*	During high volume times, it is recommended visitors arrive at
least 15 minutes prior to the appointment. 
*	All items larger then 18" X 18" must go through the dock X-ray
machine.
