[OPLINTECH] help! my mailbox was overtaken by offensive spam

Lynne,

The Thunderbird spam/junk filters should be helping you out
significantly. Are the junk e-mails being correctly labeled as such or
are they not getting labeled correctly? If the filters are missing a lot
of junk and you are diligently marking junk e-mails as junk and ensuring
that good e-mails are not marked junk, then perhaps you need to reset
your junk mail filter and re-train it.

It can take 1 or 2 weeks of training to get the junk mail filters really
going well, but once it's trained, it should catch the majority of your
junk mail. It's important, however, to ensure that junk mail is marked
as such and good email is not marked junk. Furthermore, you can have the
junk automatically moved to a "junk" folder and then deleted after an
arbitrary number of days. I use 30 days to give me plenty of time to
catch anything that might have been (very, very rarely) mislabeled as junk.
