[OPLINTECH] Bandwidth

Most importantly you should block Port 25 and disallow users from
sending email as Spammers can use your wireless to send hundreds of
thousands of messages. But if it is a single patron and you know who is
doing it best solution is to approach the patron and tell them you have
noticed a high amount of bandwidth usage from his computer and check to
be sure he has an antivirus installed. It could be he doesn't and it a
zombie station. Encourage the patron to make sure they have the latest
windows updates.

Help techies,

We have wireless access for patrons with no limits and no policy. We do
have it password protected but right now we don't change the password.
Our problem is we suspect a patron of hogging our bandwidth, we don't
know what he is doing but we have gotten several calls for OPLIN support
letting us know that we are reaching our limit.

What are some policies in place that your library is using?

What Limits do you have?

How often do you change the password?

Please respond to me off list.
