[OPLINTECH] when a patron's flash stick is not accepting files

Hi Sandee and all,

Yeah, thats a limitation of fat/fat32. The root of the flash drive is stored as data in the header of the partition, but folders are actually specially tagged files simply referenced in the header. In unix, directories are a file with a D(directory) attribute. The index of the files in the folder is virtually unlimited, but the index of the root is I think 512kb, including all logistical and naming information.

create a folder and move the contents of the ?:\ directory into it. like ?:\mp3 or ?:\documents, where ? = the letter of the removable disk.

Yours,

Charles T (Tom) Houghtby IV

IT Manager, Liberty Center Public Library

To resolve, create a new folder on the drive and transfer the remaining data to the new folder. If the DataTraveler does not permit you to create a new folder, try removing one or two files from the drive and then create a new folder."
