OplinTech,

I'm in need of some assistance with a book scanner we have here at PLCH.
This device was working up until the PC attached to died of hard drive
failure. Now, I've built a new PC and can't get the scanner to scan
properly. This device was installed long ago and no one in the department
here remembers exactly how it was done.

The scanner is a Minolta PS 3000. It is SCSI based. I am using a piece of
software called Scandall 21. The application recognizes the scanner is
present, and when I click 'Scan' the scanner reacts. The lights come on and
I hear the sound of motors moving inside. In addition, when I change the
size and dpi settings on the PC, those settings appear on the scanner's LCD
display. So it is very nearly working. However, an attempted scan is
followed by an error message on the PC. Something along the lines of "An
unknown error has occurred." I can't seem to find any error logs or more
detailed information about the error.

So, I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience with these devices and
has any suggstions. In particular:

* Is there a way to find out more about what is going wrong with Scandall
21?
* Is there another alternative application that might be better than
Scandall 21?
* Are there other configuration steps that need to be done that I could
have overlooked?
* Does anyone know of any companies that service this type of device, that
we could contact to take a look at it?

Thanks in advance for any help!
