So I wanted to ask, has anyone experienced this x next to wifi issue with
any Kindle Fires yet?

I have, and after a few days of tinkering with it.I have tracked it down
that it seems to be a connection issue of some sort to do with automatic
DHCP configurations..perhaps related to the way the Kindle handles DHCP?
Setting a Static IP on the Kindle Fire removes the X next to the wifi in
every instance I have come across, the user gets library policy agree page,
and all is well.

(fixed two of them over the weekend with home routers at the person's house
by simply setting a static IP) is this a glitch perhaps?

This x next to wifi issue is well documented on Amazon's support site..and I
guess happens on many home routers as well

The Kindle in question has the latest version of the Kindle software.
However, this x next to wifi issue has been pretty hit or miss.with one
patron all I had to do was reboot that Kindle Fire and it fixed itself, the
other it took manually assigning an IP to fix it.like it just wouldn't
connect with DHCP.

I am running ISC DHCP Server.http://www.isc.org/software/dhcp

So In the meantime, I am going to set up an updated version of it by an
access point with upgraded software and run a few tests here and see if it
is a glitch in the ISC software that's resolved by updating to the newest
release that just came out last week, perhaps its an incompatibility with
the Access Point?.

I am running an older Linksys Access Point(I have forced it into G only
mode), and it has the latest Firmware update available for it dated june
2010.

If anyone has come across this issue and found any type of fix for it. I
would like to hear what you done to resolve it.

As always this list is a great resource. Thanks Guys/Gals!
