[OPLINTECH] Drive Vaccine

Microsoft used to offer SteadyState which worked like DF. MS discontinued it most likely because not enough people used it. I think the reason why DP is the only name in the game, is there isn’t a “huge” need for it. We dropped DF a few years ago and just opted to lock down the PC’s via GPO’s. We block anything from being executed, restrict the all drives minus T:, and created a T: VHD that loads on startup. Every morning the T: drive gets wiped since it’s not persistent.

Very interesting. I've been watching for a long time to see if there would ever be a competing product with similar features to that of Deep Freeze. I've been surprised that I've never seen another product that works quite like it...not even any budding open source projects, which surprises me. I think Faronics has a patent on the technology, which may be why I've never seen a product that works in a similar way. And yet, now here's Drive Vaccine. I wonder what their angle is and how they don't run afoul of Faronics' patents. (I could be completely wrong about the patents and what they're for. I've not really looked into it...just saw some references to it once not too long ago and figured that explained the lack of competition in this space.)

(If there aren't any legal restrictions, this would definitely be the perfect open source project, given all the libraries, schools, and corporations that benefit from DF!)

Definitely worth taking a look at DV!

Hello,

Who is using Horizon DataSys Drive Vaccine<http://www.horizondatasys.com/en/products_and_solutions.aspx?ProductId=2#Features> to maintain their public laptops? What are the issues you have with Drive Vaccine?

We are currently experiencing issues with Faronics Deep Freeze<http://www.faronics.com/products/deep-freeze/> and Windows updates. I was wondering what experiences others have with Drive Vaccine. I now have tested Drive Vaccine, but have no reliable information about it's long term use.
