[OPLINTECH] Wireless Service

We use Cisco Aironet managed WAPs and a Cisco 2504 wireless controller/support contract. We segregate physically, since our wireless staff devices (mostly tablets for pages) do not need access to staff-only resources.

Jessica:

We use Ubiquiti. I believe we purchased a set of three PoE Access Points for less than $300 through CDWG. We run our staff wifi and our public wifi through the same devices. The public wifi is a segregated network via our switches. They also have a management console. They are plug-and-play devices that are truly easy to setup. If you need more coverage you just plug in another access point and pick it up in the management console which controls all the device so you do not have to configure each one. Once you make a change in the management console the changes instantly change in the devices. They run stable and rarely ever need restarted. Great cost effective solution.

I'll second Becky's question - I'd love to hear a survey of what solutions you've preferred for managed wifi, and how you like them. (Anyone using UniFi from Ubiquiti)?

Thanks!

Hi!

We are looking at options for updating our wireless stuff (provided we receive e-rate funds to do it), and I am curious if anyone is using Cisco's Meraki network. It looks good; it may be over our budget though. If you do, I'd like to know how it's working for you, any pros and cons, etc.

Thanks!

Becky
