[OPLINTECH] AntiVirus suggestions

I usually recommend using Avast, AVG, or Security Essentials (Defender
in Win 8,10). If the person bought a new computer then I tell them to
use the free trial of the anitvirus that came pre-installed. At the end
of the trial they can uninstall it and install a free one. I also let
them know that the free antivirus won't provide support and they will
have to find help from a 3rd party.

A browser plugin like WOT or SiteAdvisor also helps. And setting up an
OpenDNS account and enabling it on their router/computer.

Then tell them about proactive steps they can take to avoid getting
infected: don't open attachments/click links in emails in suspicious
emails even if it is from someone they know, use a standard (non-admin)
account, make sure browsers are updated, OS is updated, when installing
software read the screen to avoid 3rd part software. Not a complete list.
