[OPLINTECH] DeepFreeze vs. Reboot Restore RX Pro

We use Centurion SmartShield and have very few problems. The biggest drawback with them is that they do not have Mac OS support past version OS X 10.9 and aren’t planning on developing it, for now we are using Deep Freeze Mac Edition but we only have a few in the system at this time so it’s not a huge deal breaker for us.

Thanks,

Subject: Re: [OPLINTECH] DeepFreeze vs. Reboot Restore RX Pro

I've used both Deep Freeze and Reboot Restore Rx Pro. We went to Reboot Restore in 2015 because it was better supported with Windows 10. I didn't have the issues Dan had with Reboot Restore RX Pro support. They were always very helpful. We did move back to Deep Freeze in 2016 due to Windows update issue with Reboot Restore Rx Pro. Since then, Deep Freeze has had its problems with Windows 10 as well. I've had nothing but problems with Deep Freeze support. I would rather beat my head against a brick wall than talk to Deep Freeze support.

Faronics, the developer of Deep Freeze, is now focused more on their cloud-based system that is significantly more expensive, I'm not sure how long the server-based Enterprise version will be available. For example, there is a bug in the current version of Deep Freeze that Faronics won't fix for the Enterprise version. I am still planning on testing Reboot Restore Rx Pro in 2019. At this point, I think it's probably 6 of one or half dozen of another between Deep Freeze and Reboot Restore RX Pro.

One thing to note, the software work significantly differently. The lockdown procedure is reversed between the two software. They both have admin consoles that make it easier to maintain the computers.

I am looking to replace WinLock on our patron desktops with either DeepFreeze or Reboot Restore RX Pro. I prefer the Ultimate version of DeepFreeze but will probably have to settle for the Premium version because of the price. Reboot Restore RX Pro is available through TechSoup at a very reasonable price. Is there any reason not to go with Reboot Restore RX Pro?

Thanks,

Lisa
