Jeff and Chatham,

Email below is response from Adrien Poly at i2S regarding various settings
for the scanner and associated resolutions. This is technically a little
over my head. Would it be helpful to ask Mr. Poly to be on the call today?

Regards,

Barry

Dear all

We have reviewed the latest comment from OHIO with regards to the lens being
used on the Suprascan. During the R&D phase we have evaluated many different
lenses matching the size of the linear sensor we are using (very long
sensor). The lens currently being used is a high quality lens that from our
findings delivers the best quality we can achieve given the requirements
that we have with the size of the sensor.

This being said we have looked deeply with our experts this morning for a
potential solution. (In bold are the new points important to understand)

The Suprascan is a very flexible scanner and can operate in many different
modes. We have described in our past communication the two different
positions (see attached picture)

Position 1 (the highest position) provide the full field of view:

In this position we can achieve easily FADGI 3 stars at 300 & 400 DPI and
most probably 4 stars

At 600 DPI we can achieve FADGI 1 star

Position 2 (intermediate position on the ruler) the field of view is
narrower

In this position we can achieve FADGI 3 stars @ 600 DPI on a document size
of 615mm x 1250mm (A0 size being 840mmx1189mm)

What is new:

In Position 1 while we are stating that it is an A0 format we do scan a
larger field of view. The exact field of view is 920mmx1250mm (vs 840x1189mm
for A0). We have tested this morning to set the scanner in an intermediate
position to get the exact A0 dimension (see attached picture with the camera
at an intermediate position between 1 & 2). According to our test with this
position you can achieve FADGI 2 stars @600 DPI for a scanning area of
840x1250mm (slightly larger than A0 in the length direction).

In order to set the machine in this intermediate position it does require
specific calibration that would need to be ported into the software.

We have a golden thread target as well as Don Willams software and we can
scan an image out of our machine to confirm our saying with the manual
configuration required.

We can provide rather quickly a modified software that would work for this
new position 1b and position 2 only and in the future provide a software
that would operate at all position 1, 1b, 2 for a maximum of flexibility

This being said the Setting of the scanner in position 2 with a scanning
format of 615mmx1250mm will provide at least a 3 stars FADGI compliance and
this is the mode that we would highly recommend using unless the documents
are really larger than this.

If needed I can join the call

Best regards,

Cordialement,
