Oberlin Heritage Center to host Textile Conservation Workshop November 20th

Wondering how to properly care for the textiles that you treasure,
including quilts, samplers, flags, or even grandma's wedding gown? Join us
for Caring for Textiles: A Hands-On Workshop taught by textile conservator
Camille Myers Breeze, Director of Museum Textile Services in Andover,
Massachusetts, assisted by Oberlin Heritage Center Collections Committee
members and staff.

This workshop is designed for anyone with a love of old textiles, including
collectors, students, and historical society and museum staff and
volunteers.

Working with objects from the Oberlin Heritage Center collection, you will
learn the basics of archival materials and methods, including flat, rolled,
and folded storage. Keys for properly storing your textiles without
spending a fortune will also be discussed.

Camille Myers Breeze (OC '91) got her start in conservation in 1988 while a
student at Oberlin. After earning a B.A. in Art History from Oberlin
College, she received a M.A. in Museum Studies from the Fashion Institute
of Technology in 1993, specializing in costume and textile conservation.
For five years she was an assistant conservator at the Textile Conservation
Laboratory, Cathedral of St. John the Divine, in New York City. She was an
advanced Mellon fellow at the Textile Conservation Center, American Textile
History Museum, in Lowell, Massachusetts before founding Museum Textile
Services in 1999. Breeze is a Professional Associate of the American
Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. She counts the
Oberlin Heritage Center among her nation-wide clients.

Preregistration is required and costs $35 ($30 for Oberlin Heritage Center
members); fee waived for current students with advance registration.
Proceeds will benefit collections projects at the Oberlin Heritage Center.

The workshop will take place on Monday, November 20th from 1 to 4 p.m. at
the Oberlin Depot, 240 South Main Street. Space is limited so sign-up today
by sending your check payable to Oberlin Heritage Center Textile workshop.
For additional information, call or send an email to
members at oberlinheritage.org. Preregister for this workshop by filling out
