[SOA] Position: Cincinnati: Special Projects Archivist

JOB SUMMARY

The Special Projects Archivist will perform general professional archival duties and  provide reference support for researchers.  The Special Projects Archivist will also participate as a professional team member in special projects relating to the areas of collection development, institutional initiatives, and commemorative programs that will enhance the AJA's work as a center for the study of the American Jewish experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  
include, but not limited to:

1. 	Arrange manuscript materials and prepare archival finding aids
2. 	Catalog archival collections using MARC cataloguing standards
3. 	Provide reference service for researchers
4.	Perform research activities for historical and programmatic initiatives
5.	Search out commemorative opportunities and assist in special institutional initiatives for the advancement of the AJA and its collection.
6.	Assist with special projects that serve to promulgate the collection and the historical resources of the AJA
	

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

List specialized knowledge and any required skills to perform the job.

1. Knowledge of the basics of archival processing and preparation of archival finding aids
2. Good oral and written communication skills 
3. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
4. Strong computer skills
5. Familiarity with archival MARC cataloguing and Encoded Archival Description (EAD).


SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under daily supervision of the Coordinator of Archival Activities and Technology & the Director of Programs and Administration with general supervision from the Executive Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

A masters' degree in history or library science that includes specialized course work in archival administration from an accredited university and at least one year's experience working in an archives..
