Subject: Archives Leadership Institute at UWM!

The Society of American Archivists is pleased to announce that The
University of Wisconsin - Madison is holding its second leadership
institute for archives professionals July 19-25, 2009 in Madison.

The week-long event will feature presentations by dynamic people in the
archival field and relevant leaders outside the profession. The goal of the
project is to examine the leadership needs of the archives profession and
to prepare participants to influence policy and effect change on behalf of
the profession (and ultimately, on behalf of the public served now and in
the future.) The program is directed primarily at mid-level to senior staff
and archivists who aspire to leadership roles in their organizations and/or
professional associations.

25 archivists will be selected to spend the week at UW - Madison's
beautiful lakeshore conference center and guest house. Most of the costs
are covered by a grant from the National Historical Publications and
Records Commission (NHPRC), and the registration fee of $550 includes
tuition, instructional materials, lodging and some meals. A number of
scholarships for travel and tuition will also be awarded. Regional archival
organizations are encouraged to consider sponsoring the members who apply
and are selected for the institute.   Application materials can be
downloaded at http://www.slis.wisc.edu/continueed/archivesinst/

The link above includes access to the 2008 Institute program providing an
example of the types of topics and sessions that will be included in the
2009 program.

Applications are due January 20, 2009. For additional information please
