*Special Collections Librarian*

Kenyon College seeks a Special Collections Librarian for the Greenslade
Special Collections and Archives in Kenyon's Olin and Chalmers
Libraries. The Special Collections Librarian works in the Library and
Information Services division, a merged library and information
technology organization, of Kenyon College, one of the nation's finest
liberal arts colleges, where 1,600 young men and women study with nearly
200 professors on an exceptionally beautiful hilltop campus in central
Ohio. The Greenslade Special Collections and Archives houses the Kenyon
College Archives, including material dating from the founding of the
college in 1824, and Kenyon's special collections, including individual
books of high research value as well as specialized subject collections
for researchers. This is a full time position that includes a generous
benefits package.

*Core Position Duties:*

* Collaborate closely with faculty and subject librarians to integrate
special collections and archives into teaching, learning, and research

* Promote awareness and use of the collections campus wide

* Oversee the development of organizational processes and systems for
effectively managing the acquisition, processing and description,
access, and preservation for collections in all formats

* Work with others inside and outside of the division to build a
digitization program for preservation of and access to unique
collections; determine selection criteria, standards, resource needs,
and system requirements

* Develop partnerships at the college, state, regional, and national
level to address issues and challenges facing special collections and
record management and archives operations in the digital environment

* Foster broad-based collaborations and partnerships with academic and
administrative departments, consortial partners, granting agencies, and
the college alumni and donor community

* Coordinate departmental planning and priorities including the
effective management and utilization of space and services along with
the Special Collections Manager

*Desired Qualifications:*

* Master's degree in Library and Information Science from a program
accredited by the American Library Association or other relevant
master's degree

* Additional advanced degree and/or specific coursework in archival
preservation and management.

* Demonstrated understanding of Issues, trends, principles, and
practices in archival and special collections through coursework and
professional experience

* Ability to work both independently and collegially in a rapidly
changing environment

* Excellent organizational, problem solving, interpersonal and
communication skills

* Reading knowledge of one or more foreign languages

* Ability to manage and lead a staff with varied skills and backgrounds
in a rapidly changing environment.

* Ability to be an innovative, proactive advocate in identifying and
managing new opportunities and challenges

* Demonstrated understanding of preservation and conservation practice
and issues for both print and digital materials

* Demonstrated experience in technological applications and in directing
technological applications in libraries or archives, including
digitization and electronic records.
