The Ohio Historical Society is pleased to announce the beginning of the Ohio Newspaper Digitization Project (ONDP). Funded by the National Endowment of the Humanities as part of the National Digital Newspaper Program, the project aims to digitize culturally and historically important newspapers representing the time period from 1880 to 1922. To select newspapers for digitization, an advisory board of regional representatives and knowledgeable at-large members has been convened to supply input and make recommendations. The two-year project will digitize 100,000 pages of Ohio newspapers between 1880 and 1922. Future phases of ONDP may focus on larger time periods or specific subject matter. The digital content will be hosted on the Library of Congress' website Chronicling America (http://www.loc.gov/chroniclingamerica/).

Joining the Ohio Historical Society in support of the Ohio Newspaper Digitization Project are Eric W. Schnittke and Alex Beres. Eric joins the ONDP as project coordinator after having completed his masters in Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Alex, quality control technician for the project, comes to the ONDP as a graduate of Ashland University and a member of the Research Services department at OHS. Both look forward to working on the project.

Additional project staff for ONDP include: Angela O'Neal and Louise Jones as project directors and Phil Sager as technical coordinator.
