Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's
Library and Archives celebrates American Archives Month
with an event highlighting Ohio music collections

Local archivists, librarians, and musicians will celebrate the voices of Ohio
with readings and performances from archival music materials

CLEVELAND (September 25, 2012) - The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's Library and Archives will host The Peoples of Ohio: Musicians and Music from Polonaise to Polka and Punk on Tuesday, October 2 at 7 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre of the Tommy LiPuma Center for Creative Arts of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C).

Local singer-songwriters, including Chris Allen, Justin Gorski (a.k.a. DJ Kishka), and Roger Hoover, will perform from handwritten song lyrics housed in the Rock Hall's archival collections, along with their own original songs that they have donated to the Library and Archives. In addition, special guest John Soeder will read from the writings of Jane Scott in the Rock Hall's newly acquired Jane Scott Papers.

The Peoples of Ohio event will showcase materials housed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's Library and Archives and additional local archives and libraries that relate to Ohio music and musicians. The event is a part of American Archives Month (http://www2.archivists.org/initiatives/american-archives-month), when archives across the country will raise awareness about the value of archives and the work of archivists. Additionally, the event will spotlight the Rock Hall's new Northeast Ohio Popular Music Archives (NEOPMA) initiative, which collects and preserves materials relating to local and regional music history. Professionals from local archives (including those at the Rock Hall, Case Western Reserve University, Baldwin Wallace University, Cleveland State University, the Sandusky Library, the Ohioana Library Association, and the Cleveland City Council) will perform readings from music-related materials in their respective institutional and personal collections.  The event will support the Rock Hall's NEOPMA initiative and celebrate Northeast Ohio's vibrant music community.



How to get to the Rock Hall's Library and Archives:

The Library and Archives is at 2809 Woodland Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. The facility is at the corner of Woodland Avenue and East 30th Street, in a shared building with the Tommy LiPuma Center for Creative Arts of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C). This is approximately two miles southeast of the Museum. Metered parking spaces are available on the street in front of the building or around the block. From there, walk in the building's main entrance, enter the lobby, and the entrance to the Library and Archives will be immediately on the right. There is also a Visitor Parking area in Lot 6 of the parking garage. These spaces should be paid for at meter stations located nearby. From the garage, enter the building's back entrance, take the elevator on the left to the first floor, enter the lobby, and look for the entrance to the Library and Archives on the left.
