Dear colleagues,
The American Alliance of Museums (AAM), in collaboration with the Coalition to Advance Learning in Archives, Libraries and Museums is planning a three-part webinar series on accessibility, Stories of Inclusion: Inclusive Practices at Cultural Institutions<http://www.aam-us.org/resources/online-programs/stories-of-inclusion-inclusive-practices-at-cultural-institutions>, scheduled for October 7, 14 and 28, 2015. University Libraries is hosting a webinar "watch and talk" event on all three of these days in conjunction with this series. This is a great opportunity to bring local colleagues from museums, archives, libraries and the disability community together to share ideas, information and inspiration around this important topic. There is no cost to attend a local "watch and talk" event.
In this series, advocates and experts explore issues of accessibility and inclusion from the perspective of visitors, staff and facility or program users in museums, libraries, archives and other cultural institutions. Presenters and special guests in each webinar highlight case studies and examples of inclusive practice, addressing and responding to the first-hand stories of visitors with disabilities.
• October 7: ADA at 25 and Universal Design at Cultural Institutions
• October 14: Responding to Visitors who are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, Blind or with Low Vision (Thompson Library, room 150, 1858 Neil Ave.)
• October 28: Responding to Visitors with Cognitive, Developmental and Emotional Disabilities (Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, room 205, 1813 N. High St.)
Each “watch and talk” event consists of:
• 30 minutes of pre-webinar check-in and networking
• 90-minute live webinar
• 60 minutes of post-webinar facilitated discussion or activity
RSVP for the next “watch and talk” event by emailing Nichole Collier at collier.40 at osu.edu<mailto:collier.40 at osu.edu>.
For additional program information, visit the AAM website, email Brian Leaf at leaf.7 at osu.edu<mailto:leaf.7 at osu.edu> or contact Greg Stevens at AAM, gstevens at aam-us.org<mailto:gstevens at aam-us.org>.
Note: Attendees at local events will not have access to the program recording(s) post-event. Parking and transportation fees are not included. AAM reserves the right to cancel any program at any time, for any reason.
"Watch and Talk" events are hosted by local institutions in collaboration with the Coalition to Advance Learning in Archives, Libraries and Museums, the AAM Education Committee (EdCom), the AAM Diversity Committee (DivCom), and the Museum Access Consortium (MAC). This program series is supported in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), creating strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas. Any views, finding, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the IMLS.
We look forward to having you join us! Please share this information with any in your unit who may be interested.
