Assessment and Special Projects Librarian & Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor, Courtright Memorial Library

Otterbein University, a comprehensive liberal arts institution in the suburban Columbus area, invites applications for a non-tenure track position in the library.



Responsibilities: Reporting to the Library Director, the Assessment and Special Projects Librarian will be a leader in developing and coordinating the implementation of a comprehensive and strategic assessment program within the Courtright Memorial Library. This position will also project manage special projects as assigned. He/she will conduct ongoing evaluation of library metrics, analyze information, provide reporting and work with colleagues to determine recommendations for improvement and/or new or retiring of specific library offerings. This position will manage data collection for annual reporting and survey responses including: gathering; reviewing, validating and evaluating; and synthesizing data submitted by library departments. To do so, he/she will investigate and communicate new methods for data collection, analysis, and documentation, and contribute to ongoing efforts to validate and improve evaluation instruments and protocols.



This role also provides consultation to support library staff and units as they gather, process, analyze, manage, and report data related to library resources and services, including guidance on conducting unit assessments and the most suitable qualitative and quantitative protocols. This position prepares and delivers internal training and documentation on tools associated with assessment, such as: survey and statistical tools, statistical analysis, and assessment methodologies. He/she will project manage special projects within the department, including administrative aspects of ongoing large and complex project and will track project’s work-in-progress to ensure that deadlines are met. In doing so, he/she will assist in defining appropriate workflows for projects and assume primary responsibility for documenting them. This position will serve as a key resource for Library policies and procedures (including generating and updating policies when required). A high degree of coordination with staff within the Library is needed.

This librarian will provide both general and specialized reference and assist students, faculty, staff, and other library visitors in making effective use of library resources. He/she will serve as Library liaison to assigned departments, including: (but not limited to) a) assist with acquisition requests and departmental reviews; b) conduct collection development for physical collection (print and electronic); c) provide advanced instruction and subject specialty consultation; d) create LibGuides for liaison area classes and subjects and e) collaborate with teaching faculty to develop stronger relationships with departments. All librarians assist in teaching users research skills necessary for lifelong learning and participates in our information literacy program. He/she may hire, train, evaluate, and supervise a staff member and/or student assistants as needed and funded, and will supervise Library during assigned evening shifts and at times when weekend coverage is needed due to staffing situations.



Qualifications: MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school required for the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Candidates seeking terminal degree (MLS/MLIS) will be considered at the rank of Instructor. Candidates are required to have experience in; project management, assessment and statistical tools and practices, interpreting data and delivering analysis, and work weekend and evening reference shifts as needed.
