AGENDA Weds July 12

- 10:30-11:30 presentation and discussion on topic;
- 11:30-11:45 break/rearrange room/grab lunch (provided);
- 11:45-1:00 discussion/lunch: announcements, all-attendee updates;
- 1:15- optional: tours (much more below!)
PRESENTATION: We'll have a lightning round featuring Ohio University Libraries staff, leaving time for Q&A at the end.
- Karmen Beecroft, Digital projects librarian, Digital Initiatives, will discuss her largest in-house digitization project to date: 1000+ letters and 8 diaries from 16 Civil War-era collections held by Ohio University's Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections. She will highlight digital production workflows, metadata conundrums, and historical insights gained from such a holistic corpus of perspectives.
- Janet Carleton, Digital Initiatives coordinator, will discuss social media collaborations within the libraries for promoting digital collections, including the main @AldenLibrary accounts (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) and DI-specific @AldenLibDigital accounts (Twitter, Pinterest).
- Damon DeBorde, head of Metadata Services, will share details of the metadata work for the Don Swaim Collection, an audio collection dating from the 1980s and early 1990s. We'll take a look at some of the challenges of wrangling metadata for hundreds of interviews and authors (e.g., Updike, Doctorow, Blume, Atwood, Ginsburg, Bradbury, Morrison) and the increased level of collaboration with Digital Initiatives. https://www.library.ohiou.edu/archives/mss/mss177.pdf
- Bill Kimok, University Archivist and Records Manager, will demonstrate how he uses digitized materials from University Archives collections to instruct students, staff, and alumni about themes in Ohio University history, and to promote further use of those materials as the basis for their research projects.
- Stacey Lavender, Digital projects librarian, Arts & Archives, will discuss the creation of "Highlights" pages on the Ohio University Libraries website as a way to promote and provide additional context for digitized materials, and using Facebook Live as a tool for publicizing those pages.
Buffet Lunch (provided)
Traditional Caesar salad; olive, lemon, feta, caper, and tomato pasta salad; penne pasta with mushroom pepper vodka sauce; bowtie alfredo w/ fresh tomatoes and parsley; 4 oz. grilled chicken; eggplant roulade (vegan & gluten free option); Italian hard rolls w/ butter.
DIRECTIONS/PARKING: Pay parking is available at Baker Student Center. NOTE: Do not put Baker Center into GPS/Google! Instead search for Bobcat Lane (or you won't be able to get to the Baker parking lot). Look at the maps linked below. After parking in the surface lot or the garage under it, go up to the 4th floor of Baker and walk diagonally across Park Place to Alden Library. The meeting is on the 3rd floor of Alden in the Friends of the Library Room.
