Dear NCH Members,

As you know, the Trump administration has proposed devastating cuts to
federal history, archival and museum programs. Attached is an in-depth
analysis of the Trump FY18 budget request to Congress and its potential
impact (see attached).

House Appropriations Committee subcommittees are currently holding budget
hearings and will be drafting their spending bills very soon.* Now is the
time for you to urge your members to contact their representatives in
support of these federal programs that are vital to our community. We try
not to overwhelm you with these requests to contact the Hill, so be assured
it is urgent that you ask your members to act today!*

This year we are suggesting you direct your members to send their messages
to Congress through the National Humanities Alliance’s legislative action
center which can be found at: http://p2a.co/kVFEeav

There you will find four alerts on the National Endowment for the
Humanities (NEH), Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), National
Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) and Title
VI/Fulbright-Hays international education programs.  Using this one-stop
shopping approach we feel is more efficient than sending multiple alerts.
These agencies and programs are the most endangered since the Trump
administration has proposed eliminating all four of them.

Our suggested alert to your members is attached. You can cut and paste from
this to tailor it to your organization’s needs.
*Please be sure to stress the urgency of your members taking action
immediately. *
