Hello all RAAC representatives,

Please share the following message with your organizations.

Thank you!

On behalf of the Committee on Public Policy and its working group on continuing education, we are sharing the following announcement with you:

----

Archivists often work under rules that were developed by public policymakers who don't make archives a priority. They might not even know why archives are important! You can help policymakers "get" archives-and understand your needs-using the strategies, information, resources, and tips available in SAA's latest workshop: "Advocating for Archives in State and Local Policymaking."

Don't count on others to advocate for you! "Advocating for Archives" focuses on archival issues in your immediate community, region, or state. You'll learn how to identify and communicate effectively about archival issues to influence decision makers. And you'll leave this hands-on workshop with your own practical action plan for a real-life advocacy issue affecting your community. Exercises will draw from resources developed by the Society of American Archivists, the Council of State Archivists, the American Alliance of Museums, and other organizations that deal with state and municipal politics.

Held in conjunction with ARCHIVES*RECORDS 2019 in Austin, the full-day workshop on August 1 is being offered for just $49 for SAA members (and employees of SAA member institutions) and $69 for nonmembers. Join members of SAA's Committee on Public Policy for a full day that may well change the way you view your role as an archivist!
