Dear RAAC members,

Please share the following with your membership.

This year's Preservation Week begins tomorrow, April 25 and runs through May 1, 2021. The theme for Preservation Week 2021 is Preserving Community Archives. As stated here<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ala.org%2Falcts%2Fpreservationweek%2Fnhannah-jones&data=04%7C01%7Ccarleton%40ohio.edu%7C269c79b27ad14474f79008d9073917ec%7Cf3308007477c4a70888934611817c55a%7C0%7C0%7C637548764061122055%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=Wq7HL8FQ1lbbnifN%2FhCi00v3719WmidIPnnN4zJwTtc%3D&reserved=0>, "Community archives are organized by members of physical or self-identified communities-specifically those marginalized by traditional collecting institutions-and are focused on documenting and interpreting their own histories." Archival advocacy is important in any archival institution, but is especially important to the support of community archives. Here is a sampling of resources/articles/etc. related to community archives and advocacy work:

I invite the RAAC representative from the New England Archivists to share any insights they may have about the work that there Community Archives Advocates Roundtable is doing via the RAAC listserv. Speaking from my role as the Society of Georgia Archivists' RAAC Liaison, we have discussed the community archives work happening in Georgia to some extent, but not with any concerted focus. Thus, I'd love to hear about the experiences of the NEA Roundtable and see if any of their initiatives and work could be applicable here in the state of Georgia.

All the best,
Cathy
