Celebrate Louis Braille's Birthday!
In partnership with the State Library of Ohio
and the Libraries for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
of Cincinnati and Cleveland
The National Federation of the Blind of Ohio
Invites you to celebrate
the 194th birthday of Louis Braille

Sunday, January 4, marks the birthday of Louis Braille, the inventor of the
tactile reading system used by blind people around the world. The State
Library of Ohio urges you to help celebrate this important event in your
community by contacting the NFB of Ohio at 1-800-396-6326 or the State
Library at (800) 686-1531.

In an effort to introduce blind children to their local libraries and to
increase Braille reading, we would like to have a birthday party for Louis
Braille in your library. The party will be complete with a birthday cake,
games that blind and sighted children can play together, and an appropriate
goody bag for the occasion. We can also make arrangements to lend your
library Braille books.

We want to encourage blind children and their sighted friends to read
intensively during the week of January 4 to 11. On Sunday, January 11, we
will urge all children to return to the library to receive a prize package
for completing the reading if they keep a log of the books and number of
pages they have read during the week.

Members of your local NFB chapter will help make arrangements for the party.
This activity is available at no charge to local libraries, though we invite
those who can do so to make a contribution to help with this project.
