*Picture Books Plus! Art, Drama, Music, Math and Science Extensions*
For Public Librarians:
Public libraries across the country are recognizing the importance of
making programs more developmentally appropriate for children by using
techniques incorporated by early chilhood educators and having more
opportunities for hands-on learning experiences. Many librarians are now
incorporating art, music, drama, math, or science activites after
sharing literature with children. This workshop will help librarians
with suggestions for hands-on activities that could be replicated for
storytime programs, for family programs, for home schoolers, or for a
program offered by the library to early childhood educators.
For School Librarians:
In elementary schools, there is much emphasis placed on incorporating
literature across the curriculum. Teachers need help from their school
media specialists with ideas on how to select the best books to use with
their children, and welcome suggestions on hands-on activities to use
across the curriculum. Also, school librarians could share some of these
stories and storytelling techniques or simple extensions during a
library period with students.
