"Creating Library Leaders for the 21st Century:
What It Takes to Take the Lead"
2004 LAMA National Institute
CHICAGO - The third Library Administration and Management
Association
(LAMA) National Institute will take place in the Wyndham Palm Springs
Hotel, Palm Springs, California, November 18-20, 2004. Institute
programs will be offered in two series running concurrently. Institute
attendees will have the opportunity to attend all six sessions.
Learn from the experts--and from each other!
Dr. Carla Hayden, 2004 ALA president, one of Ms. Magazine's 2003
Women
of the Year, and Executive Director of the Enoch Pratt Free Library,
will give the conference keynote and capstone addresses.
Camila A. Alire, Ph.D., 2005 ACRL President-Elect, University of New
Mexico General Libraries will present a session on "Leading During
Traumatic Times." Julie Todaro, Ph.D., Austin (Texas) Community College
will guide participants in "Transferring and Adapting Leadership to New
Environment." Alire and Todaro will team up to present "Recruiting
Developing and Mentoring New Leaders."
Luis Herrera, 2004 PLA President, Pasadena California Public
Library,
will discuss "Leading Your Superiors and Your External Community - Infusing
Values." John Lubans, Jr., North Carolina Central University, Durham will
explain "Leading from the Middle." Donald E. Riggs, Nova Southeastern
University, will describe "Leadership Styles and Techniques." Both Riggs
and Lubans will present "Leading Your Organization - Infusing Values and
Building a Leadership Infrastructure." Patrick Wheeler, 3M Library Systems,
will teach participants about "3M Six Sigma-Achieving Breakthrough
Performance for our Customers, Shareholders, and Employees."
