LSTA Exemplary Projects Announced

The State Library of Ohio is pleased to announce the Exemplary Programs for
the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) 2003 Program Report submitted
to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Designated projects were:

Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library, Family Literacy program, "A Walk in
Storybook Park". A small award, this grant generated interest, enthusiasm,
and cooperation in the entire community. Families visited the park for
storytelling, crafts, and other activities.

Delaware County District Library, Spanish Language Collection. This
minigrant involved a high degree of collaboration with other agencies that
work with the Spanish-speaking community. It embodied all of the elements
required for a successful project aimed at the Spanish-speaking population.

Lakeshore Northeast Ohio Computer Association (LNOCA), Automation. This was
the first automation grant that included schools from a major urban
district. As part of the project, 30 school libraries in the Cleveland
Municipal School District were automated. In total 79 school libraries were
automated through the project.

Ohio Area Media Centers, Digital Technology and Video Storage. This full
grant demonstrated a new form of partnership between regional providers of
educational media and commercial vendors of educational media. It also
involved a high level of collaboration between OAMC, OhioLINK and INFOhio.

Ohio Educational Library Media Association (OELMA), "Student Learning
through Ohio School Libraries" research project. This is the first survey
of its kind to examine the multi-dimensional dynamics of student learning
through effective school libraries particularly from the perspective of
students.

Ohio Historical Society, Ohio Memory Project. This project was designated
exemplary because of its far reaching impact, the numerous audiences reached
and its relation to the Ohio Bicentennial.

Each year the State Library submits a Program Report to IMLS. As part of
that report, three to six exemplary projects must be identified. State
Library staff select these projects based on their relation to LSTA goals,
impact of the project on the targeted population and the ability to be
replicated in other parts of the state.
