Dear Ohio Children's Librarians:

What is Early Childhood Mental Health?
Early childhood mental health services promote young children's healthy
social and emotional development.

Early childhood mental health is a continuum of services, ranging from
training for child care workers to intensive intervention for families in
which children exhibit severe behavioral and emotional difficulty.

Early childhood mental health services are particularly critical for young
children who have witnessed violence, who have been victims of abuse, and
whose learning disabilities cause them to have difficulty behaving
appropriately in group settings.

Early childhood mental health services help Ohio's children start school
ready to learn.

Public Policy for early childhood mental health in Ohio
is being developed NOW!
Please join us in helping shape Ohio's Early Childhood Mental Health Plan, a
policy document that will benefit our state's young children for many years.

During the summer and fall of 2004, early childhood leaders from across Ohio
will gather to learn more about early childhood mental health services and
the Ohio Department of Mental Health's Early Childhood Mental Health Plan.

Please join us by attending any meeting that suits your schedule. Invite
your colleagues to join us; anyone who cares about the future of Ohio's
children is welcome.
