I highly recommend to those of us in living Northwest Ohio, that we take
advantage of the invitation from the Wood County Public Library to hear
and meet author Laura Lippman. She was a guest on the Diane Rehm show
(National Public Radio) this past Tuesday. I personally thought she was
one of the most interesting authors of fiction Ms. Rehm has interviewed.
For any would be fiction writer I suggest you listen to a recording of
this program http://www.wamu.org/dr/ She plots out her story, in
timeline fashion, on a four foot long piece of paper before she ever
begins to write. She mentioned that her career as a journalist has
given her a different approach to creative writing than most authors.

Readers can meet author Laura Lippman at the Wood County District Public
Library (251 North Main St., Bowling Green) Wednesday, August 4 at 7:00
pm, when she visits the library as part of a national tour for her newly
released novel, By a Spider's Thread.
Since her debut in 1997, Laura Lippman has won virtually every major
prize in the mystery-writing field and earned the highest critical
praise for her Tess Monaghan series, which has been called "spectacular"
(New York Times), "terrific fun" (Washington Post), "a delight"
(Baltimore Sun), and "the best mystery writing around" (Village Voice).
Ms. Lippman was a newspaper reporter at the Baltimore Sun for twelve
years. Her novels -- Baltimore Blues, Charm City, Butchers Hill, In Big
Trouble, The Sugar House, and The Last Place -- have won the Edgar,
Agatha, Shamus, Anthony, and Nero Wolfe Awards, and In a Strange City
was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. She is also the
author of the critically acclaimed novel Every Secret Thing. Ms. Lippman
lives in Baltimore, Maryland, which also serves as the setting for her
novels.
Following a brief talk, Ms. Lippman will be available for
book signings. Copies of her books are available for purchase from the
Friends of the Library, with proceeds benefiting the Wood County
District Public Library.
For more information call WCDPL at 419-352-5104.
