OK.
We have been calling and emailing notices for maybe 4 years with no
complaints.
Today I saved my library about $115 in postage; supplies and labor by
emailing some 250 notices and only snail mailing 40. My system doesn't
count automated calls too well, but on an average day we make 300 or 400
calls and only 10-15 fail and have to be printed.
Doesn't take much to add up the cost savings.
Think about it: if a family has a single email address than everyone is
reading everyone's mail anyway from the phone bill to love letters, so
the family itself doesn't have much of a privacy policy.

During phone calls, we do not use the title of item requested, no matter
who/what we are speaking to, but an automated email does.
Patrons provide us with the email information, so should we be concerned
with who sees/has access to it?
