Live music will headline the program for the final day (April 23) of Remembering Community: A Spring Literary Arts Festival (SLAF) at the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library in McArthur, Ohio. The last day of the three-day event will open at 1:30 p.m. with a performance by southeastern Ohio favorites The Local Girls of Athens, Ohio.

Mimi Hart, Gay Dalzell, and Brenda Catania have been singing together for 13 years. They are known for swing tunes of the 30s and 40s as well as their own arrangements of cowpoke, bebop, blues and standards. In 1997, the trio was invited to perform for Hillary Clinton at her 50th birthday party. They followed up the next year with the White House Christmas tour. They also have been featured on National Public Radio's A Prairie Home Companion. Their recent album Four Year Heaven: The Songs of Ohio University Celebrating the First Two Hundred Years features the unique music of their alma mater.

The Kettering Banjo Society will also perform that afternoon, delivering their trademarked mix of musical styles and variations. According to their website, The Kettering Banjo Society is the largest Banjo Band east of the Mississippi. The 59 members of the society play various instruments including banjos, piano, tuba, string bass, saw, harmonica, accordions and mandolins. Through instrumentalists and vocalists, a wide variety of musical styles and variations are presented. The society seeks to preserve and promote a style of music popular during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The day will also feature local artisans and organizations offering crafts and food items. Horse-drawn carriage rides in the village of McArthur will also be available during the musical performances.

Remembering Community: A Spring Literary Arts Festival is sponsored by the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library and the Friends of the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library, Inc., in McArthur, Ohio. The festival opens at noon on Friday, April 21, 2006 and the last event will commence at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2006.
