Jeffery Deaver to appear at Vinton County literary festival

New York Times' bestselling suspense novelist Jeffery Deaver will be a keynote speaker for Remembering Community: A Spring Literary Arts Festival in McArthur, Ohio on April 22.

Deaver is the author of more than 20 novels, including The Twelfth Card, Garden of Beasts, The Vanished Man, The Coffin Dancer, Praying for Sleep, and The Bone Collector.

Two of his books have been made into major feature films. Dead Silence, starring James Garner and Marlee Matlin, is an adaptation of Deaver's novel A Maiden's Grave. The Bone Collector, based upon his bestselling book with the same title, stars Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie.

Deaver, a Chicago area native, penned his first book at age 11. He went on to edit his high school literary magazine and serve on the staff of the school newspaper. After earning a B.A. in journalism at the University of Missouri, Deaver enrolled at Fordham University's Law School because he wished to become a legal correspondent for high profile publications. However, his interest in journalism waned, and Deaver accepted a position as a corporate lawyer at a Wall Street firm. During his long commutes to his law office, Deaver began scribbling his own versions of suspense fiction.

His first major outing was the Rune series, which followed the adventures of an aspiring female filmmaker in the trilogy Manhattan Is My Beat, Death of a Blue Movie Star, and Hard News.

Deaver's next series, which featured the adventures of ace movie location scout John Pellam, included the thrillers Shallow Graves, Bloody River, and Hell's Kitchen. Written under the pen name William Jefferies, the series is distinctive in Deaver's body of work, because it displays more development of vivid characters than of perilous situations.

In addition to being a bestselling novelist, Deaver has also been a folksinger, songwriter, music researcher, and professional poet.

Deaver will teach an afternoon writing workshop before offering his keynote presentation.
