The Ohio Digitization Interest Group will hold its next meeting on February 14, 2006, 11:30-1:00. The topic for this meeting is "Digitizing Historic Newspapers." Over the next 20 years, the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) will digitize 30 million pages of historically significant newspapers dating from 1836 to 1923. Please join us for a discussion on current techniques and topics in newspaper digitization. Phil Sager, Digital Projects Developer at the Ohio Historical Society, will share what he learned at a University of Utah workshop on digitizing newspapers in July. During this brown bag presentation, Phil will describe what he learned during this workshop. In addition to sharing a couple of websites that represent the latest in online newspaper projects, he will also discuss the issues and opportunities involved in getting newspapers digitized and online.
The Ohio Digitization Interest Group is open to everyone, and there is no charge for participation in the group. The meeting will be held at the Ohio Historical Center, located at 1982 Velma Ave., Columbus, Ohio. Drinks will be provided. Since there are no restaurants nearby, please bring a brown bag lunch and join us for what promises to be an informative presentation!
