Programming Workshops for Young Adult and Childrens Librarians:

Bringing Boys Into the Library:

How can libraries attract boys to programs? Create programs based on Howard
Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. MI theory states that people
learn in eight different ways. We will show participants how to create
programs using these intelligences by highlighting several successful
programs that have a large boy audience. Free to SERLS enhanced members, $20
for all other library staff.

Date: Wednesday, April 4th

Time: 9:30 a.m.- 11:30 p.m.

Location: John McIntire Library, Zanesville

Using Puppets in Storytime:

"Puppets can add a fun element to any storytime, but can also be a challenge
for even the most experienced children's librarians. If you've always wanted
to try puppets in your storytime, or you just want to brush up on your
technique, then this is the workshop for you. This hands-on workshop will
give participants the opportunity to break into groups and practice their
puppeting techniques, then use their creativity to make their own puppet to
keep!" Free to SERLS enhanced members, $35 for all other library staff.

Date: Wednesday, April 4th

Time: 12:30- 4:30

Location: John McIntire Library, Zanesville

Young Adult Summer Reading Discussion Group:

Did you attend a Summer Reading Workshop and find yourself wishing for more
programming ideas geared towards young adult librarians? If so, consider
attending this informal discussion group geared towards the state wide "You
Never Know" summer reading theme. Participants should come prepared to share
programming ideas they will be using over the summer- bring props or
pictures if you can! There will also be a discussion on favorite newly
released material for young adults so bring your favorite new book, graphic
novel, book on CD or movie to share. Participants will leave with some
freebies, including new Young Adult books to add to their collection! Free
to all library staff!

Date: Thursday, April 5th

Time: 9:30- 12:00

Location: State Library of Ohio- Boardroom.
