POSITION AVAILABLE

Newark Public Library - Newark, Ohio

 


Children's Librarian - Grade 6 (Full-time)


Main Library, 101 W. Main Street, Newark, OH

 

Under the general supervision of the Head of Children's Services, this
position performs primarily the duties of the children's librarian in a
typical public library environment.  These duties include, but are not
limited to: collection development, story times and other children's
programming; school visits; library tours; assisting the public;
answering reference questions; and, maintenance of the department's
web-page.

 

Full-time (37.5 hrs/week required).  Will be required to work some
evenings and some Saturdays.  Will also be expected to be flexible for
scheduling and to work extra hours, as needed, to cover vacations and
sick leave.  Also, if needed, may be required to work additional hours
on some Sundays at the Main Library (paid at time-and-a-half).

 

Minimum Qualifications and Principal Duties

*	Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited
library school, or within 6 credit hours of completion of Master's
degree and currently enrolled in classes to complete degree
*	OLC Certification preferred
*	Provide own transportation when participating in off-site
Library business or activities

Salary

Begins at $1,222.73 on bi-weekly basis ($16.3031/hour) - Grade 6, Step A
- with an increase of one step (approximately 2%) when the probationary
period is successfully completed.  

 

Probationary Period

The first 6 months in this position are considered probationary in
nature.  The successful applicant's performance will be reviewed at 6
months, and if their performance is satisfactory, the employee will
receive a rate increase of one step and their probationary status will
end.  If the employee's performance is not satisfactory, the employee
can be terminated or the probationary period may be extended for a
maximum of three more months, if, in the opinion of the Library, it
seems the employee needs more time to show they can perform at the
expected level.  If the employee's performance is still not satisfactory
at the end of this second probationary period, their employment with the
Library will be terminated.
