Job Title: Youth Services Manager
Department: Youth Services
Reports To: Director
FLSA Status: Exempt, full time, salaried
Pay Grade: 12
Pay Range: 34,132.80 - 51,209.60/Annually
Approved By: Board of Trustees

Summary Plans and administers program of library services for a department
by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate staff.
Fosters an environment of creativity and enthusiasm. Works weekends and
evenings to meet workload demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each
essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations will be made for

* Directs youth services activities.
* Submits recommendations on library policies and services to the
Director and implements policy decisions.
* Analyzes and recommends positions to complete the work of the
department.
* Spends departmental budget and controls expenditures to approved
budget.
* Examines trade publications and materials, and consults with others
for collection development.
* Participates in a variety of activities to maintain knowledge and
skills in trends and best practices.
* Coordinates programs and public relations with appropriate staff.
* Examines and selects materials to be discarded, repaired, or
replaced.
* Performs activities of staff supervised.
* Reads and recommends a variety of materials to patrons.
* Assists with outreach activities and takes programs into community,
schools and daycare facilities.
* Creates displays to enhance the Library collection and to promote
reading.
* Ability to work with the public for extended periods of time,
maintaining a positive, pleasant demeanor and providing friendly, courteous
services to library patrons.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises 1-2 FTE employees in the Youth Services Department.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the
organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include
interviewing, recommending and training employees; planning, assigning, and
directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and coaching employees;
addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Master's degree from an ALA accredited college or university; 2 years
supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,
professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from
groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and
statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,
percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid
conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical
instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract
and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of
Library Automation Database software; MS Office suite software, including
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and IE.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain
access to worksite.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required
to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands

and performing for adults. The employee is occasionally required to stoop,
kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to
25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific
vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision,
color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust
focus.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
